Iran war spills into Iraq as US jet crashes and French soldier dies in drone attack
The escalating conflict with Iran has now extended its reach into Iraq, marked by a series of alarming developments. A U.S. jet has crashed, suspected to be the result of a mid-air collision, while a French air base in Erbil is engulfed in flames following a drone attack, leaving one soldier dead.
Efforts are currently underway to locate the American refueling aircraft and its crew, believed to consist of at least three members. This incident adds a new layer of complexity as the confrontation enters its 13th day.
The downed U.S. aircraft, which was part of the ongoing military operation against Iran, crashed in western Iraq. There is no immediate evidence pointing to either hostile or friendly fire as the cause.
Meanwhile, the French air base in Erbil suffered significant damage in what appears to be a deliberate drone assault. The attack led to a major fire and resulted in injuries to six French soldiers. Tragically, one of these soldiers has succumbed to their injuries, as confirmed by President Emmanuel Macron earlier today.
