A 29-year-old woman named Ladejah Shaw is facing several charges after allegedly promoting and allowing a fight between students while working as a substitute teacher at Lake Shore Middle School.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ladejah Shaw was arrested on multiple charges, including felony child neglect, following accusations that she encouraged two students to engage in a fight during her substitute teaching assignment at Lake Shore Middle School.
The incident, which took place on October 17, was documented by several students who captured the scene on video, according to a report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Footage reportedly shows Shaw urging the students to commence fighting while the rest of the class gathered around them in a circle outside.
At that time, Shaw was employed by ESS, a company responsible for staffing and placing substitute teachers within school districts. Following the initial report, Duval County Public Schools confirmed that Shaw was removed from both the classroom and the school premises.
“The alleged behavior is unacceptable, and Duval County Public Schools maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any conduct that jeopardizes student safety,” wrote the district in a statement. “As a result, this individual has been permanently barred from working anywhere in the district and will no longer have access to our schools or students.”
Shaw was arrested at her apartment Wednesday night and charged with two counts of felony child neglect and two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child.

“Teachers are called to lead the next generation, not put them in harms way,” JSO wrote on social media.
As of publishing, Shaw remains in the Duval County jail with a bond of $15,000.
