Champaign County Resident Sentenced for Noncompliance with Sex Offender Registration and Unlawful Reentry into the U.S.

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A Guatemalan citizen residing in Champaign has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for failing to update his sex offender registration and for unlawfully reentering the United States.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that 24-year-old Roberto Nicolas-Simon will serve both sentences simultaneously. Court proceedings revealed that Nicolas-Simon was in the U.S. illegally when he was previously convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Champaign County.
