Elon Musk defends Pam Bondi over Epstein files scandal

Elon Musk came to the defense of Attorney General Pam Bondi after the Jeffrey Epstein files were released to a lukewarm reception. Musk contended that Bondi is actively combating a ‘leftist culture’ within the Justice Department and FBI.

‘People don’t understand that you don’t get instant power here,’ Musk wrote on X along with a retweet of a user blaming the situation on the FBI.

One user, known as WallStreetMav, supported Bondi’s efforts by stating that she is tackling the leftist influences within the DoJ and FBI and urged people to give her the opportunity to make a difference. Additionally, the user placed blame on FBI agents for hindering Bondi’s progress and causing the underwhelming release of documents related to Epstein.

Bondi hyped expectations for the release, saying the newly released documents would ‘make you sick.’

However, the approximately 200 pages mostly contained previously released information and implicated no one other than Epstein.

The released cache predominantly contained flight logs from Epstein’s planes, which had already been in the public domain for some time. It also included contact details for numerous associates and brief descriptions of items discovered at his various properties.

Lawmakers, conservatives, conspiracy theorists and much of the internet was outraged at the lack of new information.

But Musk stood up for Bondi.

‘Imagine if you were suddenly appointed AG or head of the FBI,’ he wrote on X.

‘You were just thrown on a ship with a hostile crew. Until you appoint some new crew members and figure out the ropes, you can’t steer the ship effectively. It’s literally impossible.’

Bondi had heavily hyped the release, calling it ‘breaking news’ in an appearance on Fox News on Wednesday night.

Additionally she and FBI director Kash Patel held a sneak peek of the documents to several conservative influencers, who came out of the West Wing of the White House on Thursday waving white binders labeled ‘The Epstein Files: Phase I.’

But the actual public release of the files didn’t come until much later in the day – well into Thursday evening.

And they proved a disappointment.

Dozens of women have stepped forward to accuse Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell of preying on them when they were teenagers or otherwise vulnerable.

Total estimations of the number of girls abused vary, with accounts ranging from a few dozen to more than 100.

But in the released files was only an entirely redacted list of 254 people described as masseuses.

Additionally, an evidence list included the document dump shows entries for more than 150 items, including nude images, massage tables, sex toys and other items.

There wasn’t any indication whether the list was from Epstein’s case, Maxwell’s case or some other investigation.

There were no other high-profile or bold-faced names tied to any crime.

‘THIS IS NOT WHAT WE OR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ASKED FOR and a complete disappointment. GET US THE INFORMATION WE ASKED FOR!,’ Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna of Florida wrote on X.

Luna is one of the lawmakers leading the charge for the full release of the Epstein files.

Bondi blamed the FBI’s New York office, saying it withheld 200 pages of the Epstein files from her.

She sent a strongly worded letter to FBI director Kash Patel demanding ‘the full and complete Epstein files’ be turned over by 8 am on Friday morning.

The Justice Department called Thursday evening’s record drop the ‘first phase of files released.’

Epstein died in a New York federal jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. He was 66.

The cause was listed as suicide but many conspiracy theorists allege he was murdered.

The major conviction in the case was Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s associate who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in the scheme to sexual exploit and abuse multiple minor girls.

There has been a conspiracy theory for years that the Epstein files were being held in secret by the government as part of a plot to protect the powerful men who also abused some of the victims, many of whom were minors.

Social media has been filled with chatter about an ‘Epstein client list’ that details the names. But there has never been a reference to any ‘client list’ in any of the civil litigation brought by victims nor has a list ever been released.

Epstein’s ‘black book’ contained names, numbers and addresses of many prominent people but no allegations against them. Many of them expressed regret at being associated with the disgraced businessman.

Trump, while on the campaign trail, expressed interest in releasing the files.

Some have been released.

In December 2023, a federal judge ordered for the Epstein court documents to be unsealed, which would have revealed dozens of names.

In January 2024, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said the documents would be unsealed on a rolling basis.

But Bondi pledged to release all the documents to show transparency from the Justice Department and assuage MAGA supporters who believe powerful men are being protected by government forces.

‘What you’re going to see, hopefully tomorrow, is a lot of flight logs, a lot of names, a lot of information,’ Bondi previewed on Fox Wednesday.

‘This will make you sick,’ she added.
