Hollywood star Emma Stone and her husband, comedian Dave McCary, made headlines with their ambitious overhaul of a mansion in Austin, Texas, which they subsequently put on the market. The couple listed the elegantly refurbished property at a staggering $23.5 million, according to Realtor.com.
Despite the mystique surrounding the final sale price, there is a strong likelihood that it matched or exceeded their substantial investment. Intriguingly, Stone and McCary never actually took up residence in the lavish home.
In 2021, the pair acquired the charming 1940s-era residence through a discreet, off-market deal, eyeing a potential move to Texas. They selected the picturesque neighborhood of Terrytown, a serene enclave just a short 10-minute drive from the bustling heart of downtown Austin.
The couple purchased the 1940s-era abode in 2021 in an off-market acquisition, with plans to relocate to Texas.
Their chosen neighborhood of Terrytown offered a suburban oasis just 10 minutes from downtown Austin.
The next three years saw the seven-bedroom home extensively restored and modernized.
The attractive, Georgian-style brick house was outfitted with high-end design details, including custom millwork, creamy marble accents and herringbone floors.
The 10,000-square-foot estate includes a four-bedroom main house, a two-bedroom guesthouse and a garage. The Hollywood couple’s custom additions included a screening room in the garage.
Stone, 37, and McCary, 40, married in 2020. The talented duo launched their film and television production company, Fruit Tree, the same year, going on to produce award-winners like “I Saw The TV Glow” and “A Real Pain.”
They also share a 4-year-old daughter.
The busy family’s professional commitments ultimately kept them tied to New York City, according to reports. Stone and McCary opted to put the nearly-finished home on the market in May of this year, initially asking $26.5 million.
The listing, held by Eric Moreland and Diane Humphreys of Moreland Properties/Forbes Global Properties, was believed to be the city’s most expensive home on the market at the time.
Award-winning architecture firm Cuppett Kilpatrick oversaw the renovation, which made way for multiple entertaining spaces, a sparkling pool and landscaped gardens.
Work on the 1.24-acre compound officially wrapped up this fall. The finished product was evidently enough to attract a buyer, with records showing the home sold in 2025. Like the exact price, the exact sale date is unknown.
The Eric Moreland Group announced the off-market sale this week in a celebratory YouTube video.
Laura Greissing of Moreland Properties/Forbes Global Properties represented the buyer.
Stone is somewhat of a hotshot when it comes to real estate. She nabbed a buyer for her Los Angeles compound in 2024 for $4.3 million. The sale was $300,000 above her asking price and leagues above the $2.3 million she paid for the home five years earlier.
The Oscar-winning actress also sold her midcentury modern home in Malibu for $4.4 million, earning $100,000 above asking.
Stone’s had a little less luck on the East Coast, however. The one-bedroom West Village condo Stone purchased in 2016 for $2.4 million found a buyer for a lesser $2.25 million in late 2021.
