In a heartwarming gesture this Christmas Day, a Jacksonville restaurant chose to keep its doors open, offering a festive meal for those looking to celebrate without the hassle of cooking.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — While most eateries opted to close on Christmas Day, SHOR Seafood Grill, nestled within the Hyatt in Downtown Jacksonville, welcomed guests with a sumptuous holiday feast. This thoughtful offering provided families the opportunity to enjoy the festivities without the usual kitchen commotion.

The restaurant attracted diners from various parts of the country, many seeking respite from the chilly northern weather.

“We just wanted a break from the cold for a bit,” remarked Samuel Kalingo, a visitor from Chicago.

In the bustling kitchen, chefs diligently prepared a delightful three-course meal, priced at $60 per person. This culinary experience aimed to allow families to savor the holiday spirit, free from the pressures of cooking and cleaning.

“Our chefs really worked hard to present this with seasonal ingredients for fall and winter,” said Brian Martin, Hyatt director of food and beverage. “It gives people options to come out and eat. They don’t have to cook at home and enjoy a great meal. You get salad, entrée, and dessert.”

Diners enjoyed everything from a butternut squash salad to grilled hanger steak, and yes, chocolate cake for dessert.

“It was just a place that I wanted to come to that was warm. It was convenient for me to get here after work and catch the flight, so it just kind of worked out,” Kalingo said.

Sometimes, the best holiday tradition is simply letting someone else do the work.

The restaurant will be serving food again on New Year’s Eve, along with a complimentary glass of champagne.
