LOS ANGELES — In Disney XD’s animated series “Dragon Striker,” the character Ameline is portrayed as a reserved and enigmatic figure, part of a youthful team honing their skills at a magical academy. However, her quiet demeanor might conceal deeper secrets.
Ameline is brought to life by the voice of Evanna Lynch, known for her role as Luna Lovegood in the “Harry Potter” films. She joins the protagonist, Key, along with teammates Ssyelle and Milo, in competing in Gototama—a fantastical sport that combines elements of soccer with magical powers.
The series chronicles the journey of Key, a determined underdog striving to make his mark at a prestigious academy in a fiercely competitive realm.
As Key navigates his challenges, Ameline emerges as a character who might possess a greater understanding of their mystical environment than she lets on.
“She has her own mission, I don’t want to say too much,” Lynch hinted in an interview with On The Red Carpet, adding an air of intrigue to her character’s storyline.
Lynch says she was first introduced to Ameline through only a couple of images, but immediately connected with the character’s design and energy.
“The immediate impression was small, big eyes, you know and I kind of was like ‘this is a character I’m going to get.’ There’s just a quality of her that I felt I can tune in to her.”
The “Harry Potter” star also highlighted one of the show’s central ideas, a group of unlikely heroes trying to navigate a much bigger world.
“You have this team of underdogs, and they care so much about what they’re doing and they’re trying so hard, but they don’t have the full picture of what’s going on in the whole world around them,” she said. “I think that’s a very unique and interesting journey that the show has put them on, that they are trying to find themselves in a very capricious environment.”
At its heart, “Dragon Striker” is also about found family, as the students form close bonds despite being from different backgrounds and facing rival groups.
“Every character is so different and has such a different backstory and such a different level of skills on the field. I think that’s a beautiful thing for viewers to watch and find something in each person that they can identify with.”
