A former McDonald’s corporate chef has revealed the ‘healthy’ breakfast menu options at the fast food chain.
Mike Haracz, who is based in Illinois, worked at the company until 2019.
He now frequently takes to TikTok to spill his insider knowledge about the fast-food chain’s prices, burgers and recipes.
Recently, the food expert used a video-sharing platform to explain how to choose a breakfast meal that is lower in calories, saturated fat, and cholesterol from a wide menu selection.
In the video, Mike first explained that an Egg McMuffin with no butter was a healthy option.
‘That would probably be the healthiest. You’ve got one egg, which is 70 to 80 calories, one slice of Canadian bacon, which is lean protein,’ he detailed.
‘Yes, I want to keep a little cheese on there so it has some kind of flavor but you could certainly remove the cheese if you wanted.
‘And then you have the English muffin, which, I believe is the lowest calorie “carrier” that you have.’

An Egg McMuffin with no butter is around 274 calories, with about 3.9 grams of saturated fat, according to diet tracker MyNetDiary.
Mike also suggested ordering the Big Breakfast with Hotcakes which includes – hotcakes, scrambled eggs, a biscuit, hash browns, syrup, a sausage patty, and butter.
However, to make it a healthier option, the chef recommended not getting the hotcakes with the order – and simply eating the rest.
He also suggested ‘ordering scrambled eggs and Canadian bacon separately and not have any bun if you want no carbs.’
Mike concluded: ‘So there are some options and ways to adjust the menu. However, those things are probably not as tasty as what is on the menu currently.’
People in the comments were quick to share their thoughts on a healthy breakfast from McDonald’s.
‘Bag of apple slices. Boom. That’s the healthiest option,’ someone wrote.
‘And the snack wraps no sauce and no butter spray for the grilled chicken,’ a user said,’ and another joked, ‘Water.’

‘The Egg McMuffin is the saddest breakfast item,’ someone else lamented.
‘Fruit and maple oatmeal,’ a comment read.
In March 2024, registered dietitian Kelsey Kunik shared her own thoughts on healthy meals from the fast food chain.
Kelsey also said an Egg McMuffin was the most nutritious breakfast option.
‘This is similar to a breakfast I would make at home,’ she wrote on her blog.
‘With just an English muffin, egg, cheese, and slice of Canadian bacon. It’s relatively low in sodium, has 17 grams of filling protein, and even offers three grams of fiber.
‘By choosing the Canadian bacon over sausage, I’m saving four grams of saturated fat and a lot of greasiness.’
