In a troubling turn of events, Darron Lee, a former linebacker with Ohio State and several NFL teams, has been taken into custody in Tennessee. He is suspected of being involved in the tragic death of his girlfriend, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities revealed that Lee is facing serious charges, including murder and evidence tampering. The charges come after deputies responded to an emergency call on Thursday afternoon, which reported that CPR was being administered at a residence roughly 25 miles east of Chattanooga.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered a woman in distress and immediately attempted to revive her. Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office has chosen to withhold her identity until her family has been properly notified.
The initial investigation has led officials to suspect foul play, with preliminary findings suggesting the woman’s death was indeed a homicide. The community awaits further details as the case unfolds.
Preliminary findings indicate the victim’s death was the result of a homicide, the sheriff’s office said.
According to the sheriff’s office, Lee was identified as the suspect and taken into custody at the scene. His date of birth in the Hamilton County booking system matches the ESPN profile of a former NFL player who attended Ohio State with the same name, WBNS reported.
Lee could face additional charges following the outcome of the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.
No additional details about the incident was immediately available.
Lee is set to appear in Hamilton County court Wednesday, WBNS reported.
According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, Lee faced domestic violence charges in two incidents from April 2023 and October 2022.
Lee was a two-year starter at Ohio State University and was a member of the 2014 national championship team. He was selected by the New York Jets in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. After three seasons, he went on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and Buffalo Bills in 2020. He signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in June 2021 but was released by the team two months later.
