In an inspiring show of solidarity, a retired air traffic controller and pilot is stepping up to support his former colleagues as they endure the challenges of the ongoing government shutdown.

Since the shutdown’s onset in mid-October, air traffic controllers have been working tirelessly without receiving their salaries. Recognizing their plight, Mack McBurney has taken action to alleviate some of their burdens.

McBurney appeared on “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” to shed light on his initiative, the “Feed Houston’s Unpaid Air Traffic Controllers” fundraiser. To date, this effort has gathered nearly $9,000, steadily approaching its $11,000 target.

The funds raised are being used to supply grocery gift cards directly to the air traffic controllers stationed at Houston Hobby Airport Tower. McBurney shared that his inspiration stemmed from Charlie Kirk’s morning routine, motivating him to launch this supportive campaign.

“[He asked] can I make a difference in somebody’s life today? How do I add value, and how do I honor God?” McBurney said.

“I’m an aviation enthusiast, was an air traffic controller, formerly. I know what these guys are going through and wanted to make a difference and at least take one stress off of their lives.”

Houston Texans legend J.J. Watt donated $5,000 to the cause last Thursday.
