Known for its association with beauty, glamour, and iconic French couture, the Givenchy name has long been a symbol of elegance. It comes as no surprise, then, that Sean Taffin de Givenchy and Dahye Jung celebrated their nuptials with a wedding that exuded sophistication, opulence, and a touch of classic French allure.

The couple, both in their late 20s, exchanged vows in August at the family’s historic Basilique Sainte-Clotilde in Paris, marking what many have hailed as the society wedding of the year.

Recently, the newlyweds shared an intimate glimpse into their special day for the first time, with the bride describing the occasion as a “pinch me moment.”

Among the attendees were numerous members of the Givenchy family, including the groom’s mother, Suzi de Givenchy, who is well-known in the modeling world. The bride made a stunning entrance in a custom-designed Andrew Kwon strapless gown, accompanied by a cathedral-length taffeta cape veil and elegant cream Manolo Campari heels. The ceremony, a Catholic service, was officiated by Father Marc Lambret, marking his final mass before retirement.

Many of the Givenchy brood – including the groom’s model mother Suzi de Givenchy –  watched on as the bride walked down the aisle in a custom Andrew Kwon strapless gown with a cathedral-length taffeta cape veil, which she paired with cream Manolo Campari heels. The Catholic ceremony was officiated by Father Marc Lambret, in his final mass before retirement.

Sean’s brothers, Lucas and Matthew de Givenchy, were groomsmen while Sean’s uncle, American jewellery designer James Taffin de Givenchy, and cousin, Stella de Givenchy, were also in attendance.

Sean’s father, Hubert Taffin de Givenchy, passed away in 2016. He was named after his uncle Hubert de Givenchy, who founded the famed clothing brand in 1952.

While the brand was sold to LVMH in 1988, the family still have close connections to the world of fashion.

Sean, a Commercial Finance Senior Analyst at auction house Christie’s, previously interned at LVMH – while Dahye, who finished her MBA at New York’s Colombia University this year worked for Taffin, owned by Sean’s uncle.

The ceremony was the finale of a grandiose three-day event, which kicked off with a rehearsal dinner at luxurious restaurant La Fontaine Gaillon, located in the shadow of the Paris Opera, with dishes including caviar linguine and tomahawk steak on the menu.

Guest were then invited to a ‘welcome brunch’ the next day at the Michelin Guide Le 5 Particulier hotel, where they played ‘find the guest’ bingo and gave out prizes such as a cart of profiteroles and a viennoiserie buffet.

The college sweethearts had a personalised Ladurée macaron tower and handed out guest favours, which included customised candles, while they snacked on pastries from chef Philipe Conticini.

After the wedding, the couple and their guests went to Le Pavillon Dauphine St Clair, organised with the help of Marie Bitton from Maiden Agency who was their planner.

‘My vision for the wedding was timeless, classic and undoubtedly Parisian,’ Dahye told Vogue.

‘I am a big vision-board nerd, so I spent many a weekend finding images that show the vibe and inspiration for each event.

‘Once I was happy with this vision board—which was a PowerPoint deck of 100-plus slides – I shared it with Marie, and she did her magic to scout the right vendors and designers from there.’

The South Korean born MBA graduate wore her brunette tresses in a classic French twist updo and walked down the aisle holding her lily of the valley bouquet.

She sported only two pieces of sentimental jewellery: her mother’s tennis necklace and pearl studs that belonged to Sean’s grandmother.

Speaking about her dress, Dahye told Vogue it wasn’t ‘love at first sight’.

‘By this point, I had gone to over 10 bridal salons in Manhattan, and still had not found ‘the one.’

‘I was losing hope and all the white dresses were starting to blend into each other in my memory, but I was determined not to compromise on anything less than what felt right in my gut.’

But after seeing a similar dress in black, she took the plunge and asked whether Kwon’s team could design one for her in the same shade as her dress.

After ‘countless hours’ sewing and perfecting the design, the newest member of the Givenchy family ended up adoring the combination, with Kwon flying all the way from New York to Paris to attend the wedding and help with the ballgown.

Of course, with so many guests sharing a rich family history in the fashion industry, it wasn’t just Dahye bringing glamour.

The groom’s mother chose to wear an Oscar de la Renta dress for the ceremony, whereas Dahye’s mother wore a Carolina Herrera number.

Sean and the groomsmen had their hair trimmed by celebrity hair stylist and family friend Marc Orsatelli, who offered to help out on the big day.

After saying ‘I do’ and taking family portraits in front of the stunning basilica, they travelled to their reception at Pavillon Dauphine via a limousine.

‘We were greeted by a string quartet, a much-needed glass of champagne, and by our smiling guests,’ Dahye told the magazine.

‘I felt like I could finally let loose a bit and enjoy the present as most of the ‘important’ moments and photos were complete.’

After cocktails were had in the garden, Sean and Dahye took their seats in the candle-lit, mirrored ballroom, which was decorated with a flowing champagne tower.

Making sure to keep the fashion in the family, Dahye’s engagement ring was made by Sean’s uncle.

‘It was truly a dream come true when Sean proposed with a custom TAFFIN ring,’ Dahye told Over the Moon.

‘One of the first gifts Sean gave me was a TAFFIN ceramic ring in a blue colour, so the engagement band is in a light turquoise that matches, set with a pear-shaped diamond.’

Paying homage to the prestigious Givenchy name yet again, the couple had Nicolas de Givenchy, Sean’s cousin, take snaps on a family vintage film camera.

Eager to have the perfect first dance, the pair spent six months rehearsing their moves and even missed dessert at their wedding breakfast to run through the routine one last time.

Continuing the family connection, Dahye revealed that she chose to wear Le Bleu by Taffin Fragrance as her wedding perfume, while her spouse wore Hamsaram – both scents from the jewellery company owned by Sean’s uncle.

After they were able to let loose on their special day, Dahye revealed that they continued partying until late, with the venue having to turn the lights on as they ‘weren’t taking the hint’ to leave.

The bride later changed out of her heavy gown into a white feather dress from The New Arrivals, swapping out her Monolos for flats.

While the wedding was held in Paris – where Sean spent much of his childhood and his mother currently lives – the couple also had a civil ceremony in New York in February.

The couple said the city was ‘diverse’ making them feel ‘immediately welcome’.

‘Both Sean and I come from multinational backgrounds,’ Dahye told Over the Moon.

‘I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up in the USA and Canada; Sean grew up in France but comes from a background of French, American, and Hong Kong roots

While Dahye describes the New York ceremony as ‘perfectly imperfect, rushed and chaotic’ the Parisian nuptials were far from it.

Guests will have known to expect a lavish affair after they received their custom, hand-drawn invitations designed by artist Léa Sabban.

Throughout the three-day celebration, Dahye wore several dresses, including a floral frock by Zimmermann, which she matched with her Celine bag – an engagement present from her beau.

Later she slipped into an ivory satin Victoria Beckham dress, which had a long train and black back straps, which she then paired with a blazer from the Korean brand, Kimhekim.

The couple first met in 2018, when they were both undergraduates at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Sean said that he noticed Dahye while she was volunteering at the event, but initially did not have the confidence to speak to her.

His friends eventually convinced him to get her number when he bumped into her on the following day, leading to the pair eventually getting engaged in New York City.

During their civil ceremony in the Big Apple last year, Dahye opted to wear a Givenchy Mini Kenny alongside her Khaite off-the-shoulder dress.

She told Over The Moon in January: ‘The brand is a legacy of Sean’s family – his great uncle was Hubert de Givenchy – so I thought it was a thoughtful ode to their heritage.’
