Karoline Leavitt recently opened up about a delicate family conversation she had to navigate. The White House press secretary shared with The Post the moment she told her parents she was dating a man nearly their age.

In an interview on Miranda Devine’s Pod Force One podcast, Leavitt described the initial discomfort of discussing her relationship with her parents. “It’s definitely a challenging conversation to have at first,” she admitted.

Leavitt, who became the nation’s youngest press secretary after President Trump appointed her last year at age 28, is no stranger to crossing age-related boundaries. Her relationship with Nicholas Riccio, her husband who is 32 years her senior, is another example.

The couple began dating when Leavitt was 25 and campaigning for a congressional seat in New Hampshire in 2022, at which time Riccio was 57. Initially, her parents were understandably skeptical about the significant age difference. However, as they spent more time with Riccio, their reservations softened, and they came to see him as a fitting member of the family.

That age gap left her parents a little skeptical at first, Leavitt said, until they all spent more time together and realized Riccio was meant to be a part of the family.

“Once they got to know him and saw who he is as a man and his character and how much he adores me, I think it became quite easy for them, and now we’re all friends,” she said.

And despite the rigors of Leavitt’s high-pressure job, the couple’s relationship has thrived. They welcomed a son – Niko, now 1 — in July 2024.

Then they ended up tying the knot in January 2025, just two days before President Trump was sworn back into office, according to PEOPLE.

And all the while her husband has remained a cornerstone of the Leavitt’s family – from her son to her parents, she gushed to Devine.

“I mean, it’s a typical family relationship, and my husband has such respect for my parents in the way that they raised me,” Leavitt said. “We all have a lot of fun together when they come to visit.”
