King Charles is deeply saddened by his non-existent relationship with his estranged son Prince Harry’s children, according to a royal expert.

After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit royal life and moved to the US in 2020, the duo became estranged from the royal family almost instantly.

As a result, the monarch, 76, now “hardly knows” his grandkids Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

“It must remain a great sadness to the King to be so distant from his two US-based grandchildren — he hardly knows them and there’s no prospect of that changing any time soon,” royal commentator Jennie Bond told the Mirror.

“The early years in a child’s life are so magical — and once they’re gone, they’re gone. I hope the King doesn’t dwell on his loss too much, but it must hurt.”

While Charles has met Archie a handful of times when he was a baby, he has only met Lilibet once during the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

Bond claims that the king, who has only seen his daughter-in-law Markle once since she quit royal life, is committed to building a relationship with the pair’s children.

“Maybe, behind the scenes, Harry and Meghan have sent pictures to the king,” she suggested.

It comes as the “Suits” alum’s estranged father, Thomas Markle Sr., shared a similar sentiment in recent months.

Thomas Sr., who earlier this month revealed he is relocating across the world, has yet to meet his grandchildren.

While he’s been continuously expressing interest in meeting Archie and Lilibet, his efforts have been met with silence from the Sussex camp.

After facing a slew of health woes in recent years, Thomas Sr. even made a “deathbed plea” to his estranged daughter in April 2023.

“I’ve never been one for birthdays, but I know the one person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won’t be in touch,” he told the Daily Mail before his 80th birthday in July 2024. “I would love to meet my grandchildren, but I would be happy with a photograph at this stage.”

“They have two grandpas who want to see them, one of whom is the King of England,” he said. “I never in my 80 years thought I’d be in the same boat as the king.”
