Charlie Kirk wasn’t deterred by security concerns, threats: Friend

() Authorities have not released much information about the weapon recovered following Charlie Kirk’s assassination, other than it was a high-powered, bolt-action rifle.

That’s enough for gun-safety authority Steve Wolf to offer a few observations.

A .30-06-caliber Mauser bolt-action rifle, for example, could have been disassembled within seconds on the rooftop where the sniper appears to have fired at Kirk at Utah Valley University, Wolf said.

“There are aftermarket accessories that would allow you to break this gun down,” he told “Banfield” on Thursday.

Also, this kind of long gun would not expel the spent cartridge after firing, Wolf said, if the shooter did not want to leave evidence behind.

Surveillance video released by authorities Thursday shows the shooting suspect jumping from a rooftop with a backpack or duffle bag.

Asked where the rifle may have been, Wolf speculated, “It looks like it’s in the bag that he’s carrying.” He added that if the bag was large enough, the full rifle could have been concealed.

Police recovered a rifle in a wooded area where the sniper fled.

“There are reportedly photos of a weapon and various details about that firearm and ammunition, including inscriptions and symbols,” the Utah Department of Public Safety said Thursday evening. “At this time, we are not able to provide further details on the content of those inscriptions.”
