A tragic incident took place at the luxurious Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort in Costa Rica, where the 14-year-old son of Yankees World Series champion Brett Gardner lost his life, as confirmed by local authorities.
Located in the rainforest town of Manuel Antonio, the resort offers direct beach access, knowledgeable naturalist guides, and a diverse food menu described as ‘stimulating, colorful, and exciting’ on its website.
Regrettably, reports indicate that Gardner’s son, Miller, passed away due to asphyxiation following a meal at the resort, as reported by Inside Edition.
Miller is said to have died ‘after a possible intoxication after apparently ingesting some food,’ officials in Costa Rica told NBC News, and Gardner and his wife Jessica said in announcing their son’s death that several others family members had gotten sick during the trip.
The Arenas Del Mar website insists that ‘only the best ends up on your plate’ and ‘yes, you’ll eat only the freshest ingredients’ at the resort, which includes the Playitas Beachfront Restaurant and Mirador Oceanview Restaurant.
The resort also employs a ‘Dock to Dish’ program for the fish that it serves to guests.Â

‘Dock to Dish connects our resort to fresh, sustainably-caught fish sourced from our own backyard, avoiding at-risk species and supporting local fishing economies in the process,’ the website says.
The resort has a range of attractions for guests to enjoy, as it located on an 11-acre private rainforest reserve, is walking distance to Manuel Antonio National Park and offers activities like zip-lining, surfing lessons and more.
Overall, Arenas Del Mar has two beaches, two pools and a spa.
Earlier on Monday, the US State Department told the New York Post: ‘We are closely monitoring local authorities’ investigation into the cause of death.Â
‘Out of respect for the privacy of the family and loved ones during this difficult time, we have no further comment at this time.’
The State Department also confirmed ‘the death of a US citizen in Costa Rica on March 21.’Â
The family are now reportedly working with local authorities to bring Miller’s body back to the United States.Â
