A sleek, minimalist-designed penthouse in downtown Manhattan has hit the market for $45million making it SoHo’s most expensive listing.

Housed in a historic 1915 cast-iron building, the four-story home was originally crafted by Gachot Studios and later redesigned by Axel Vervoordt, known for designing Kim Kardashian’s LA residence, often referred to as a ‘minimal monastery’.

Vervoordt’s influence is apparent in the residence, featuring sophisticated touches and furnishings that seamlessly marry contemporary opulence with enduring sophistication, as described in the listing presented by Clayton Orrigo at Compass New York.

The penthouse is currently owned by Eli Bronfman, the heir to the Seagram liquor empire, who acquired the property in 2022 for slightly above $35.6 million, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Occupying the top four floors of 20 Greene Street, the penthouse is a sprawling, three-bedroom condo boasting 6,814 square feet of interior space and 2,841 square feet of private outdoor space spread across four terraces.

Vervoordt’s influence is evident in the carefully curated finishes and furnishings, creating a mix of luxury and understated style.

The residence culminates in a private rooftop terrace offering unparalleled 360-degree views of Manhattan, complete with an outdoor gourmet kitchen, built-in gas barbecue, and pergola – the perfect backdrop for any occasion against the iconic New York City skyline.

You enter the apartment through a private elevator that opens into a dedicated landing room, the fifth floor features a library with soaring 10-foot ceilings, a serene meditation room, and a spacious walk-in laundry room.

Kim Kardashian’s admiration for Vervoordt’s work led her to entrust him with the renovation of her sprawling Los Angeles mansion, which she purchased for $20 million in 2014.

This decision proved pivotal, as Vervoordt’s vision shaped the home’s now-iconic minimalist aesthetic.

She and her then-husband, Kanye West, made extensive updates to the famously stark residence after buying it together.

When the couple divorced in 2021, Kardashian retained ownership of the house.

Their four children – North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm – have grown up in the serene space.

‘When I saw the kind of work he was doing, I thought, ‘This man could design Batman’s house.’ I had to work with him,’ she revealed.

Kardashian’s dedication to simplicity extends to every corner of the home, including its furnishings.

Before moving in, she and West lived in a home dominated by gray tones – an experience she called a ‘good test’ before fully embracing the lighter, more minimalistic aesthetic.

The Kardashians star has often spoken about her love for understated design, explaining that her home is intentionally sparse to counterbalance the chaos of the outside world.

‘I find that there’s so much chaos out in the world that once I come home, I want it to be really quiet and I want everything to feel calming,’ she told Vogue during a February 2022 house tour.
