Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is facing allegations of assaulting a woman at the residence of a Wolverines football staff member, amid claims that he had been “stalking her for months,” sources have revealed.
Audio from a police dispatch, obtained by the Daily Mail, indicates that the alleged victim reported the assault on Wednesday evening. The call originated from the address of a Michigan football staff member around 4 p.m.
The staff member, who has reportedly been affiliated with the Wolverines for several years, is believed to serve as the executive assistant to the head coach.
Details remain murky regarding whether the staff member is the alleged victim or if the incident simply occurred at her residence.
Moore, who was dismissed from his position as head coach earlier on Wednesday due to an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member, is scheduled for a court appearance on Friday. This arraignment will take place less than 48 hours after his arrest in connection with the alleged assault.
The 39-year-old, a married father-of-three, spent Wednesday night in a cell after a stunning day that saw him first dismissed by Michigan over an affair with a member of staff and later detained at an apartment complex in Ann Arbor.Â
Sherrone Moore had reportedly been acting ‘strange’ in Michigan before he was fired
The school announced they had uncovered evidence of ‘an inappropriate relationship with a staffer’ and within hours he was in custody at Washtenaw County Jail after losing his $6million-a-year job.
The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to Daily Mail that he remains behind bars on Thursday, with charging decisions not expected to be made until he is arraigned on Friday.
According to ESPN reporter Pete Thamel, the situation with Moore at Michigan had been ‘percolating’ for the last few weeks after he began acting ‘strange’ behind the scenes.
‘There had been a lot of uneasiness on the Michigan staff, sources had told me Sherrone Moore had been acting strange, berating assistant coaches, not acting in a normal way,’ Thamel said Wednesday on SportsCenter.
Thamel claims there was an initial investigation that had calmed towards the end of the regular season, only for it to reignite over the past week.
‘It is rare that you get a statement like the one Michigan had, being as explicit as they are, saying it was an inappropriate relationship with a staff member that led to Sherrone Moore’s firing,’ he added.
Michigan announced Moore’s exit in a damning statement on Wednesday, with athletic director Warde Manuel saying: ‘Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
‘This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.’

After citing cause for firing him due to that ‘clear violation’ of school policy, Michigan will not have to pay Moore his buyout clause.
He went 18-8 in his two seasons as Wolverines head coach, with the team 9-3 this year before his shock firing.
Just hours after he was sacked, Moore was taken into custody after police responded to an alleged assault at 4pm Wednesday.
He has yet to be formally charged, but a department spokesperson has reported he was ‘involved in an incident Wednesday that required police attention.’
The Daily Mail has sought further information from Pittsfield Township Police and the local prosecutor’s office.
As for Moore’s alleged relationship with a staffer, internet sleuths, Yahoo! Sports and several other online sources claim to have identified the suspected woman.
What’s more, school records show this person’s salary spiked 70.6 percent, from $58,025 in 2022 and 2023 to $99,000 in 2025, all without any official change to her job title.
At this time, the Daily Mail has chosen not to identify the staffer alleged to have been involved with Moore.
