Storm Bickers said she received a gut-wrenching call from her daughter Thursday, saying their home had quickly burst into flames.

“You could see the fire from the road, so I knew it’s going to be bad. And then I saw the back part of the house just gone. I was devastated. I was crying,” said Bickers.

Bickers believes a space heater may have ignited the fire.

In the moment, Bickers describes being at a loss for words. Instantly, she said she began thinking about all the memories lost.

The fire hits hard for the Bickers family, because two other homes on their family property were destroyed in a tornado back in April 2023.

One of those was her mother’s house that is now almost rebuilt.

The second home, she and her family were living in when the storm destroyed it.

Bickers said Thursday was the day construction was supposed to start for that home, and then the one they were temporarily living in caught fire.

“We’re just taking it one day at a time. So right now we’re kind of just camping at my mom’s unfinished house, sleeping on the floors. We’ve been able to replace clothes and things like that, but we don’t really know what we’re going to do long term,” said Bickers.

Bickers said they have a long road ahead but are thankful no one was hurt.

Bickers grew up on the land and wants to continue raising her family there, despite the devastation.

Storm and her husband are Navy veterans, relying on strength and faith to weather this second storm.

“There’s been so many times in my life when I’ve been in a situation like this, and every single time I just, you know, pray and God has come through for me every single time,” said Bickers.

A friend of the Bickers family started a GoFundMe to help their family rebuild. If you’d like to donate, click here.
