Roger Allers, a towering figure in the world of animation and a key creative force behind some of Disney’s most beloved films, has passed away at the age of 76. His contributions to the animation industry are immense, having co-directed the iconic “The Lion King” with Rob Minkoff and worked on classics like “Aladdin,” “The Emperor’s New Groove,” and “Brother Bear.”

WASHINGTON — The animation community is mourning the loss of Roger Allers, who left an indelible mark on Disney’s legacy with his talent as a director, writer, and animator. At 76, Allers leaves behind a rich legacy that includes his pivotal role in bringing to life timeless films such as “The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and many others.

Allers’ death was confirmed by Dave Bossert, an acclaimed artist, filmmaker, and author who was also a close friend. Bossert shared the news on Facebook, paying tribute to Allers’ exceptional talent and kind nature.

“Roger was an extraordinarily gifted artist and filmmaker, a true pillar of the Disney Animation renaissance,” Bossert wrote. “I had the privilege of being part of the crew with Roger on many films in the late ’80s and throughout the ’90s, and he was, without question, one of the kindest people you could hope to know and work alongside.”

He understood the power of great storytelling — how unforgettable characters, emotion, and music can come together to create something timeless. His work helped define an era of animation that continues to inspire audiences around the world, and we are deeply grateful for everything he gave to Disney. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and collaborators.”
