Emily Blunt and Kate Hudson lead worst dressed at Governors Awards

Hollywood’s elite gathered for the 16th Annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles, an evening that promised an abundance of glitz and glamour. However, amidst the glittering affair, a few stars’ fashion choices left onlookers scratching their heads.

Among the notable attendees were Emily Blunt, Kate Hudson, and Amanda Seyfried, whose outfits sparked considerable discussion and some confusion. Their sartorial decisions seemed offbeat, especially in an event that saw Sydney Sweeney and Jennifer Lawrence topping the best-dressed lists with their dazzling ensembles.

Emily Blunt, typically celebrated for her chic style, surprised many with a bold red asymmetrical dress. The British actress, 42, donned a piece that featured avant-garde detailing at the neckline, reminiscent of a crumpled bow, which deviated from her usual sophisticated looks.

The striking dress also included sheer paneling, creating a peculiar V-shape that extended from her hips to her inner thigh, adding to the evening’s fashion missteps. While the effort to push boundaries in fashion is often applauded, this particular attempt seemed to miss the mark, according to some critics.

The bright number  also featured sheer paneling in a V-shape oddly positioned from her hips down to her inner thigh.

Her brunette tresses were pulled back in bun as she let her natural looks shine with complementary make-up.

She was joined on the red carpet by her The Smashing Machine co-star and frequent collaborator Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

Meanwhile, 46-year-old Hudson rocked a rather frumpy long-sleeved, green silk dress.

The ill-fitting number featured odd cutouts at the shoulders and down the sleeves.

She did have her hair and make-up done in a callback to old Hollywood glamour, however, it was not enough to make up for the rather hideous dress.

Hudson was joined on the red carpet by her co-star in upcoming musical Song Song Blue Hugh Jackman.

Seyfried,  39, may have rocked the oddest look of all as she donned a brown and light pink polka dot off-the shoulder number.

The bizarre frock featured small furry bicep cuffs and a big pink silk bow at the chest.

The Mamma Mia! star donned necklace featuring massive diamonds along with a matching earring set.

Her blonde locks were pulled back as some of it framed her face as her make-up was complete with a swipe of pink lip.

Kristen Stewart donned a strapless black number featuring a lacy white detailing along the neckline and two matching bizarre lacy designs at the chest.

Regina King wore a look that was a bit disjointed between the top and bottom as the upper was a clinging sheer leopard-patterned bodysuit which was tucked into a flowy draped maxi skirt.

Queen Latifah sported an unflattering bright red number featuring an unusual shiny fringed design at the chest.

Jurnee Smollett shined but her gold gown did not exactly glitter as it featured an odd vine design from the shoulder down to the hips.

Jeremy Strong once again showcased his eccentric style a brown monochrome look highlighted by dusty looking suit.

The Governors Awards, a prestigious honor bestowed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, recognize extraordinary lifetime achievement in cinema and exceptional contributions to the film industry.

The Governors Awards are often an emotional affair. With no television cameras or band there to play you off during a speech, it’s a night where friends and colleagues get to pay tribute to that year’s honorary Oscar recipients, many of whom are later in life.

The honorary Oscars are led by movie star Tom Cruise this year in addition to storied dancer Debbie Allen and prolific production designer Wynn Thomas also earning awards.

Meanwhile, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award was presented to country legend Dolly Parton as she was forced to pull out of attending the event in-person amid well-publicized health issues.

The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award was not awarded this year.

Highlights from Sunday’s award show will be incorporated at the 98th Academy Awards in March.

According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the statuette is ‘to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or for outstanding service to the Academy.’
