The Glynn County Police Department said in a release that their officers tried to pull the man over around 2 a.m. Saturday when the chase started.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A man is dead after the Glynn County Police Department said he crashed his car into a tree — before catching fire — during a police chase in Brunswick early Saturday morning.

A GCPD spokesperson said in a press release that their officers were attempting to pull over the man, now identified as Brandon Higginbotham, around 1:56 a.m. Saturday at Spur 25 and Scranton Road when he ran from police.

Officers gave chase until Higginbotham, according to GCPD, lost control of his car and crashed into a tree on Habersham Street in Brunswick. The car caught fire, and Higginbotham was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Georgia State Police responded to the scene to investigate, and that investigation is still ongoing.

Anyone with information on this case should contact the Glynn County Police Department non-emergency line at (912) 554-3645 or anonymously via Silent Witness at (912) 264-1333.
