Copeland’s was closed Wednesday after a shooting took place outside. JSO says the man was shot in the chest and died of his injuries.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting near Copeland’s restaurant on Southside Boulevard on Wednesday. JSO says a man was shot in the chest in the parking lot around 2 p.m.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department transported the man to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
According to JSO, the man was there to “meet someone,” but investigators do not yet know the purpose of that meeting. Several people were taken into custody Wednesday night, but police have not determined their roles in the shooting.
Three people are detained as suspects, JSO said, and two witnesses are speaking with police about what they saw.
A black four-door car, possibly a Nissan, was seen leaving the parking lot and heading south on Southside Boulevard after the shooting, according to JSO. Police are working to determine if the vehicle was involved. They are asking the public to contact them with any information about the car.
