The incident happened on Sunday when the Disney Cruise Line ship was between the Bahamas and South Florida, according to multiple media reports.
WASHINGTON — A dramatic rescue unfolded Sunday at sea after a child reportedly fell overboard off a Disney Cruise Line ship and her father jumped in after her.
The incident involved the Disney Dream cruise ship as it was headed back to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, following a four-night cruise to the Bahamas.
According to multiple media reports, a young girl fell overboard from the fourth deck of the ship and a man identified as her father went in after her. A “man overboard” alert then sounded on the ship and the crew threw life preservers into the water as they readied rescue boats, CBS Miami reported.
A TikTok video posted by passenger noeayala32 showed a rescue team from the cruise ship saving the father and his daughter from the water. The video captures passengers watching from the ship cheering as rescues made it to the pair in the water.
In response to a comment, the person who posted the video said the rescue happened within 20 minutes of the first siren and announcement.
“The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water,” a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson said in a statement. “We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols.”
It’s unclear exactly how the child fell overboard. A passenger who was on the ship noted in a social media post that the area where the child fell has plexiglass safety barriers covering the railings.
