A flight en route from New York to Chicago had to make an unexpected stop in Detroit on Sunday due to a reported disruption, according to officials.
The American Airlines flight 2819, which departed from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, was redirected to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Romulus, Michigan, on Sunday morning.

Upon landing, the Wayne County Airport Authority Police addressed the reported disturbance onboard the American Airlines flight. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also involved, authorities confirmed.
An FBI spokesperson stated that agents from the Michigan division were dispatched to Detroit Metropolitan Airport to conduct an investigation.
Authorities assured that there was no immediate danger to the public.
American Airlines issued a statement, saying, “American Airlines flight 2819 diverted to Detroit (DTW) due to a disruptive customer. The aircraft landed safely at DTW where law enforcement and medical personnel met the flight and the customer deplaned. We appreciate our customers for their patience and thank our crew for their professionalism.”
