Chrys Carvajal was tragically shot and killed after attending a social gathering in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood of Chicago in 2021. His death has sparked a prolonged investigation as law enforcement officials strive to bring those responsible to justice.
Carvajal’s family recalls the initial arrest of Joseph ‘Troubles’ Matos shortly after the murder. However, at that time, the state’s attorney’s office determined that there was not enough evidence to proceed with formal charges against him.
Fast forward to 2024, and the legal landscape has shifted. The U.S. Attorney’s office has now filed charges against Matos, accusing him of racketeering and firearms-related offenses.
For further details, one can explore the recent developments in the case involving charges connected to the 2021 murder of the 19-year-old Chicago National Guardsman, Chrys Carvajal.
The FBI has raised their reward to $50,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Matos. They said he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Carvajal was just days away from his 20th birthday when he was killed. He was a member of the Army National Guard, and Carvajal also hoped to go the academy and become a Chicago police officer.
“That was one of his hopes and dreams. He loved this city,” Carvajal’s sister, Jennifer Ramirez, previously said.
