An alleged senior figure in the notorious global hacking network ShinyHunters has been arrested in the Netherlands during a joint investigation by the FBI and Dutch authorities. The operation is focused on a cybercrime group tied to major attacks in the United States and other countries.
Dutch police said Sept. 15 that officers had detained a 24-year-old man from Amsterdam over his alleged involvement with ShinyHunters and an alleged effort to encourage two murders. Investigators are examining electronic devices seized during the arrest and have not ruled out additional arrests.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced the case Tuesday morning on X, describing the suspect as one of the alleged leaders of ShinyHunters, a global cybercrime and threat-actor organization connected to attacks in the U.S., the Netherlands and elsewhere.
Patel said the Dutch High-Tech Crime Unit arrested the suspect under Dutch law with support from FBI investigators. FBI teams are continuing to work with international partners to pursue additional leads generated by the arrest, he added.

The FBI director also thanked Dutch police and industry partners for sharing information, emphasizing that the broader investigation remains active.
According to a Dutch police release, the man is additionally suspected of attempting to incite two murders. Authorities seized multiple data carriers for further examination and said more arrests remain possible.
