ATLANTA — A fortunate individual in Georgia has claimed a nearly billion-dollar Mega Millions prize.

The winning ticket, bought at a Publix location in Newnan, Georgia, successfully matched all five numbers along with the Mega Ball, as confirmed by Mega Millions officials.

This jackpot reached an estimated value of $980 million, marking it as the eighth-largest prize ever awarded in the history of the game.

This monumental win also sets a new record as Georgia’s largest lottery jackpot to date, according to Mega Millions.

Friday’s winning numbers were 1-8-11-12-57, Mega Ball 7.

The jackpot winner has the option to take the cash lump sum of $452.2 million or an annuity, which is paid out in one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments increasing by 5% every year.

Mega Millions drawings take place Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
