KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police and federal agencies are investigating after two Tesla Cybertrucks were damaged in a fire late Monday night at the Tesla dealership in south Kansas City.

Police suspect the fire was intentionally set.

According to a statement from police, the fire was reported around 11:15 p.m. Monday at the Tesla dealership at 10111 State Line Road.

KCPD said one of its police officers was in the area when he saw smoke coming from a Cybertruck in the parking lot.

The officer tried using his fire extinguisher, police said, and the Kansas City Fire Department was called to assist. The fire then spread to a second Cybertruck in the parking lot.

When firefighters arrived, they found both Cybertrucks on fire.

The fire department said the fire was brought under control and the vehicles were covered with a fire blanket to prevent reignition.

The Kansas City office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives stated Tuesday that it is working with KCPD and the FBI to investigate the incident.

The fire at the Kansas City Tesla location comes as dealerships in several other states have reported damage to Cybertrucks.

The company has recently been the target of protests and vandalism due to CEO Elon Musk’s connection with President Donald Trump. Musk is a key figure in President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency responsible for slashing federal jobs and programs.
