Yacht catches on fire in St. Tropez port

On Thursday, onlookers at Crazy Pizza in upscale St. Tropez, France, were stunned by the sight of a multimillion dollar superyacht engulfed in flames at the nearby port.

A source sent Page Six video of the fire, with billows of smoke covering the area, as the Sea Lady II burned for hours on Thursday.

The luxurious vessel — capable of accommodating up to 10 guests in five lavish suites, including a master, two doubles, and two twins — was docked when the fire broke out.

It’s still unclear what sparked the blaze, and the outlet Superyacht Times reported that, “Two people, believed to be crew members aged 24 and 35, were rescued and are reported to be suffering from smoke inhalation.”

The outlet added: “While the worst of the blaze was brought under control by midnight, firefighters reported difficulties boarding the yacht. A spokesperson from the fire department stated that surrounding yachts were quickly moved to safety and anti-pollution barriers were deployed.”

The yacht typically sails with a crew of up to eight, but no injuries had been reported as of press time. The ship’s owner is unlisted, and the boat is available for charter for a whopping $76,000 a week.

The fire didn’t deter the party on land.

“This is St. Tropez, everyone is still eating, dining and dancing,” said our source. “No one evacuated the area. People lined up to watch the yacht burn.”

The source said of the scene that smoke was “swirling” as people watching the scene in the port were wearing masks and their eyes were “tearing up” as they left.

At the same time, other mega-yachts were “still filled with people dancing and music blasting,” said the source.

The Sea Lady II boasted high-end toys from jet skis and wakeboards to kayaks, fishing gear, and snorkeling equipment.

It isn’t the first time a yacht has caught on fire in the famed French Riviera hotspot. In 2017, a yacht burst into flames along Pampelonne beach when the engine was started. That ship eventually sank.

It’s high season in St. Tropez with the jet set descending on the glam costal town.

Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet were seen there this week, holding hands while strolling Shellona Beach surrounded by friends and a team of security guards.

Kendall Jenner is also in town with her sister. The pair have been vacationing in Europe for weeks now, touching down in Venice, Italy, for Jeff Bezos’ $50 million wedding to Lauren Sánchez in late June.
