Central Texas under flood watch as recovery efforts continue

() Parts of central Texas remain under a flood watch overnight, more than a week after torrential rains led to the flash-flooding in the region that claimed the lives of at least 129 people. Even more remain missing.

The National Weather Service said between 2 and 4 inches of rain may fall and officials have placed Hill Country and the Edwards Plateau under the flood watch until 7 p.m. Sunday. Potentially affected areas include hard-hit Kerr County, where most of the fatalities occurred when the Guadalupe River rapidly exceeded its banks early July 4.

Camp Mystic, a Christian all-girls camp, lost at least 27 campers and counselors and its owner when rushing waters overtook the riverfront property before dawn.

A variety of agencies and volunteers continued searching through debris this weekend hoping to find people who are still unaccounted for. President Trump and first lady Melania Trump visited the region Friday.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” the president said. “A little narrow river that becomes a monster.”
