Florida AG asks Duffy to block drivers licenses for 'aliens'

() Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has written a letter to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to request that he suspends California and Washington’s CDL programs.

Uthmeier’s request comes just weeks after a deadly crash on the Florida Turnpike. Truck driver Harjinder Singh, 28, is accused of making an illegal U-turn while driving, resulting in the deaths of three people.

Singh, who authorities say is living in the U.S. illegally, was issued a commercial driver’s license in California. It and Washington are two of the 19 states that offer CDLs to drivers regardless of immigration status.

“Sanctuary states are putting Floridians’ lives at risk,” Uthmeier said in a post on social platform X. “We are ready to work with the Trump administration to ensure there are serious consequences.”

Singh has been charged with vehicular homicide and faces up to 45 years in prison and possible deportation.
