In an unexpected twist following the Super Bowl halftime show, U.S. Representative Randy Fine has raised concerns over the content of the performance, calling for federal scrutiny. Fine, a Republican from Florida’s District 6, has taken issue with the performance by Bad Bunny, labeling it as containing “pornographic” elements unsuitable for television audiences.
In a post shared on platform X, Fine expressed his displeasure with the content, addressing FCC Chair Brendan Carr directly in an email. He urged a thorough investigation into both the NFL and NBCUniversal for their roles in broadcasting what he described as inappropriate material.
“The content aired during the Super Bowl was nothing short of ‘woke garbage’ and must be stopped,” Fine remarked passionately. “It is unacceptable that more than 130 million viewers, including children, were subjected to such vulgar and offensive material during the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.”
Fine’s letter specifically targets Bad Bunny’s lyrics, accusing them of being “pornographic” and alleging they promote drug use among young audiences. Despite the performance being conducted entirely in Spanish, Fine claims that it included explicit language, notably the use of profanity.
In the letter, Fine alleged that Bad Bunny’s lyrics were “pornographic,” encouraged children to use cocaine, and that he said the “F-word,” despite performing entirely in Spanish.
One song specifically referenced by Fine was “Safaera,” which is sexually explicit. The song was not performed in its entirety, and some words were self-censored or changed in the live performance.
In the letter, Fine argues that the halftime show “had the predictable and dangerous effect of encouraging children across the country to seek out and listen to the full, uncensored, and explicitly sexual lyrics.”
“I am formally requesting that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) immediately open a full investigation into the NFL and NBCUniversal for knowingly allowing indecent material to be broadcast nationwide during one of the most widely viewed television events in history,” Fine wrote.
Fine’s letter comes after widespread backlash from conservative politicians and President Donald Trump over the decision to allow Bad Bunny, a Spanish-language performer and Puerto Rican, to perform at all. Turning Point USA, a conservative advocacy organization, streamed its own counter-performance at the same time called the “All-American Halftime Show,” featuring headliner Kid Rock.
“The All-American Halftime Show pulled in OVER 25 MILLION views on just YouTube and Rumble alone,” TPUSA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet tweeted. “Based on tonight’s success, we have committed to running it back again next year. The All-American Halftime Show will be back in 2027.”
