Investigators say the doctor had previous allegations of similar behavior, including one incident in North Carolina.

OCALA, Fla. — A medical doctor is facing charges after a patient reported being inappropriately touched during an appointment last month, the Ocala Police Department announced in a release Tuesday.

Police arrested and charged Jose Jacob, 65, with battery after a reported incident on March 24 at the Cardiovascular Institute of Central Florida, the release states.

The victim, a woman in her 50s, told police that Jacob asked her inappropriate questions about her love life, and hugged and kissed her without her consent.

When questioned by police, Jacob denied all allegations of inappropriate conduct and told investigators he had no history of any prior allegations of sexual assault.

Investigators learned through speaking with medical staff that a similar allegation had been made against Jacob a few months prior, an arrest affidavit states. The company’s CEO told investigators that the allegation was never reported to law enforcement, and Jacob continued working, the affidavit states.

After searching a regional law enforcement database, investigators identified another allegation made by a patient of Jacob’s in North Carolina in 2017.

The victim said that on June 17, 2017, Jacob made “inappropriate commentary” about her weight, saying her weight loss made her “look cute,” the affidavit states. She said Jacob then began hugging and kissing her without her consent, and while examining her knee, began lifting her dress, the affidavit states.

“After the examination was over, Jacob stood in front of the doorway, not allowing the patient to leave freely, before asking the patient to kiss him,” the affidavit states.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jacob on March 28, but he has since been released on bond.
