In a separate incident in Florida, a man faced arrest this week for allegedly making off with hundreds of pounds of avocados from a grove near Miami, as reported by local authorities.

The accused, 29-year-old Edel Perez, was taken into custody after officers reportedly observed him exiting a fenced avocado grove carrying bags filled with approximately 400 pounds of the fruit, according to an arrest affidavit from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Perez allegedly confessed to the police that he was out of work and intended to sell the stolen avocados to buy Christmas gifts for his two children.

The arrest, which took place on December 22, involved Perez allegedly taking a significant quantity of avocados from a grove in the Miami area, as noted by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

At about 3:10 a.m. on Monday, police said they observed a male dressed in all black clothing picking avocados inside the grove.

The avocado grove is fenced and has a “No Trespassing” sign, according to police.
