A tragic case involving a Florida man has led to a death penalty sentence after he fatally shot his pregnant teenage girlfriend, ending both her life and that of her unborn child, because she refused to terminate the pregnancy.
Donovan Faison, 23, was recently found guilty of the murder of 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo. In November 2022, Fiengo was discovered dead in her car alongside an ultrasound image, having earlier informed Faison of her pregnancy with two positive test results. His response was a text that simply read, “Abortion!!!”
The Sanford Police Department noted that Faison was living with another woman who suspected infidelity, which left him feeling “angry and pressured,” leading to a violent outburst.
In a chilling message to a friend, Faison vowed, “On my brother’s grave, I’m gonna crop her out,” referring to Fiengo, who was already mother to a young child named Ace.
On the night of her death, Faison arranged for Fiengo to meet him at Coastline Park in Sanford, just north of Orlando. She was found deceased in her car’s driver’s seat, the engine still running, after informing a friend about her plans to meet him there.
A bullet casing and an ultrasound image were found near Fiengo’s body, cops said.
“This was an execution-style killing,” prosecutor Stewart Stone said, telling jurors they “should consider the cold, calculated, premeditated nature of this killing.”
Jurors voted 11-1 to recommend the death penalty, KALB reported.
The pregnant teen was at the end of her first trimester at the time of her murder. Police did not say if Faison was the father of the unborn child.
Prosecutor Domenick Leo told jurors during closing arguments that the phone messages gave “clear, convincing evidence.”
“He said he was going to do it, then he did it,” Leo said of the killer who was arrested around 10 months after the murder. “The police got the right guy.”
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 5.
