A Florida mother was arrested at the airport after returning from Las Vegas, where authorities say she left her four children alone while traveling for work.
Body camera footage shows deputies meeting Irene Miller as she stepped off the plane Friday morning, then escorting her through the terminal before placing her in handcuffs.
The arrest followed a 911 call made two days earlier by one of Miller’s children, who reported that a dumbbell had struck her 9-year-old brother in the head, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived at the Kissimmee residence shortly after 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 and found four children—ages 9, 11, 12 and 14—without an adult present, authorities said. Fire rescue personnel transported the injured boy to Celebration Hospital, where he was treated and later released.
A deputy spoke with Miller by phone. She said she was working in Las Vegas and expected to return Oct. 23. Investigators determined she had left Florida on Oct. 18, according to the sheriff’s office.

Miller told investigators she had arranged for a babysitter to drive from Tampa each morning, help the children prepare for school and check on them later in the day. The sitter was not expected to remain at the home overnight, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities reached the children’s father, who agreed to bring all four children to his home while detectives coordinated a plan to meet Miller after her flight arrived.

Miller was taken into custody on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm and booked into the Orange County Jail.
“The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate child neglect,” Sheriff Chris Blackmon said. “These cases will be investigated, and charges will be brought against parents who fail to properly supervise or care for their children.”
