Police in Florida are searching for a woman accused of hitting a motor scooter rider, seriously injuring him and then leaving the scene.

The department released video Tuesday showing the hit-and-run involving what is believed to be a gold Toyota Rav 4. Police said the incident took place the afternoon of Oct. 12 in Tampa.

The victim, identified as Jonny Fitzcharles by FOX13, spoke about the crash outside Ybor Grocery in what appears to be a well-populated neighborhood.

“If she saw me, she could have seen how scared I was, and to just walk away form that was obviously unthinkable. I can’t put it into words,” he told the TV station. He did not believe he was going to survive.

“That’s what I was screaming at the scene was, ‘I’m going to die. Just somebody tell me, am I going to die? Yes or no?'” he said “It’s been a weird week of saying the word ‘lucky.’ Like that is not a word I expected to say, but I really am, all things considered.”

Fitzcharles said he suffered several broken bones with a lot of cuts and scrapes.

Video obtained by FOX13 shows a different vantage point than the one released by police. In it, the driver appears to roll through a stop sign, T-bone Fitzcharles as he is riding on a motor scooter and drag him before coming to a stop as onlookers react in shock.

The woman driving the SUV then gets out, looks around, gets back into the vehicle to reverse a little bit, gets out one more time before returning to the driver seat, reversing and taking off from the scene.

The Tampa Police Department described the driver as a Black woman with long braids, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and approximately 160 pounds.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Tampa PD at 813-231-6130 or contact Crimestoppers of Tampa Bay.
