Surveillance footage captured a former Connecticut state worker having a violent meltdown in a police station where she shot at the protective glass and repeatedly held the gun to her head. 

Suzanne Laprise, 51, entered the Bristol Police department on Thursday around 11:30 p.m. when she stormed to the front and began shooting.

Security footage shows the former state employee rushed into the police station with a gun held to her head.

She made her way to the empty front desk and started banging on the windows with her weapon while smoking what appeared to be a cigarette.

Laprise then fired several rounds at the glass before taking off her red jacket. Police said the bullets did not penetrate the glass.

She then sat down on a bench in the lobby and held the gun to her head and is seen firing a round into the ceiling before officers approached.

Body camera footage shows officers assessing the situation from the hallway before attempting to have an open dialogue with the shooter.

The Connecticut Inspector General’s office said during the efforts Laprise fired additional rounds in the direction of the officers.

On the body camera footage officers are heard asking if the windows are bulletproof while gunshots are heard.

Officer Spencer Boisvert returned fire, sending off two shots. The bullet-resistant glass stopped all rounds and no one was hit.

Once Laprise put her weapon down, the video shows officers rushing towards her.

Police said that ‘deployed an electronic defense weapon’ before taking her into custody.

She was taken to Bristol Hospital for evaluation and was later released.

Laprise is facing charges of criminal attempted murder, illegal discharge of a firearm, illegal carry of firearms under the influence, criminal use of weapon, violation of pistol permit requirements, illegal possession of large capacity magazine, criminal mischief 1st degree, reckless endangerment 1st degree and breach of peace 2nd degree.

She worked for the state Department of Developmental Services for 12 years, which helps people with disabilities, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.

CT Insider reported that Laprise had said earlier in the night at a nearby sports bar that she was going to the police station to tell them to ‘kill me or I will shoot them.’ It is unclear what prompted her meltdown.

She was using a gun that belonged to her boyfriend, a retired New York Police officer.

She is being held on a $3 million dollar bond and her next court date is scheduled for October 17.
