() A blue-chip college basketball recruit and the son of a former NBA star is in a medically induced coma after being seriously injured in a car crash in Los Angeles, according to multiple media reports.
Alijah Arenas, 18, is the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas and was involved in the crash early Thursday morning. TMZ Sports reported that Alijah Arenas, who is committed to playing basketball at the University of Southern California, sustained serious injuries after reportedly crashing his Tesla Cybertruck in a Los Angeles neighborhood.
ESPN, citing a Los Angeles Fire Department public information officer, reported that first responders arrived at the scene of the crash at 4:55 a.m. after a Tesla Cybertruck crashed into a tree and a fire hydrant with fire involved.
The fire department spokesman did not identify the person involved but told ESPN that the 18-year-old driver was out of the vehicle and that he was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
According to The Sporting News, Alijah Arenas is the No. 13-ranked high school recruit in the nation.
