Former NFL Player Darron Lee Charged with First-Degree Murder in Tragic Death of Girlfriend

In a shocking turn of events, Darron Lee, a former first-round draft pick for the New York Jets, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in Ooltewah, Tennessee. The charges relate to the tragic death of his girlfriend, as confirmed by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities took Lee into custody after identifying him as the primary suspect at the scene. However, the identity of the victim has not been disclosed to the public as the investigation continues.

Lee, 31, made his mark in the NFL as a linebacker, playing 58 games across several teams, including the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, and Buffalo Bills, from 2016 to 2020. Originally drafted 20th overall by the Jets in 2016, he was a standout at Ohio State University and earned the title of defensive MVP in the 2015 Sugar Bowl.

In addition to the murder charge, Lee faces accusations of tampering with evidence. The sheriff’s office has indicated that further charges might emerge as the investigation unfolds, leaving the community in suspense over the details of this grim case.

Lee was charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Additional charges could be pending following the outcome of the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

Upon arrival, first responders located a female victim and attempted life-saving measures.

“Due to the condition of the victim and the residence, HCSO Criminal Investigative Services Detectives responded. Preliminary findings indicate the victim’s death was the result of a homicide,” the Hamilton County sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Lee has a Feb. 11 court date.

He was previously arrested for assault and domestic violence in 2023.
