President-elect Donald Trump will be inaugurated for his second presidential term on Monday, and former White House usher Chris Emery has a look behind the scenes at the “mass bedlam” behind a White House flip.

Emery told the process of moving presidents in and out of the White House “is almost like Cirque du Soleil,” with all 97 staff members working together.

“Some people are bringing clothes in. Some are bringing furnishings. You got electricians doing wiring. You get engineers putting up things. Everybody’s working together,” Emery said.

It’s incoming first ladies who plan for the move and it doesn’t always go as planned, Emery said.

“I can recall President Clinton coming directly to me, saying, where’s his tux? He had an inaugural to go to, and so there’s a mad search throughout the house trying to find what happened,” Emery recalled. “His tux was finally found in a third floor closet, like a half an hour before he was ready to go.”

The first family knows what to expect this time around, but Emery said it will still be a heavy lift before their homecoming is complete.
