With tensions escalating between the United States, Israel, and Iran, some biblical scholars and Christian analysts suggest that ancient prophecies predicting the end times might be materializing.
In the aftermath of the attacks that resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several religious commentators have referenced scriptures from both the New Testament and Hebrew Bible, asserting that these texts foretell the growing conflict.
In the New International Version of the Bible, Jesus is quoted in Matthew 24:6-7 saying, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.”
Commentators also highlight Ezekiel 38:5, which mentions “Persia,” a term commonly associated with present-day Iran, as part of an anticipated alliance opposing Israel during what is referred to as the “latter days.”
The prophecy notes, “Persia, Cush, and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets,” hinting at a coalition prepared for battle.
The new interpretations come as the same podcast, Living Waters, warned that two major biblical verses appeared to be coming true in June last year, with both predicting turmoil in the Middle East.
The first of these apocalyptic prophecies revolved around 1 Thessalonians 5:3, written by the Apostle Paul, which warned that, ‘While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly.’
The second sign involved the nearby country of Syria and the prophet Isaiah, who said, ‘Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins.’

Civil defense members inspected the damage after a blast rocked the Mar Elias Church in Damascus, Syria, on June 22 last year
In the hours after the secret US bombing mission on June 22, President Trump, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and other White House officials repeatedly spoke about ‘peace’ while discussing Operation Midnight Hammer.
Meanwhile, America’s allies in Israel continued to contend that the bombing of Iran’s nuclear labs made the world a ‘safer place.’
The new strikes in the heart of Iran have drawn similar responses from the US and its allies, calling the decision to attack the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps one that prioritizes the ‘safety and security’ of American citizens.
‘Although the United States desires a quick and enduring peace, not possible at this time to know the full scope and duration of military operations that may be necessary,’ President Trump wrote in his official notification letter to Congress under the War Powers Resolution.
Meanwhile, the capital of Syria has been devastated by the country’s civil war and suffered even more hardship during a suicide bomb attack on a Christian church.
Biblical scholars from the Living Waters podcast, which has more than 1.6 million subscribers on YouTube, suggested that events in both Iran and Syria, which both occurred on June 22, 2025, paralleled the verses that foretold the end times for humanity striking unexpectedly.
The verse in 1 Thessalonians, where Paul discussed the ‘day of the Lord,’ is a biblical concept referring to a future time of divine judgment and intervention.
Paul emphasized its suddenness and unpredictability, urging believers to stay vigilant and faithful.

Are today’s global conflicts fulfilling biblical prophecies?
President Trump has warned that the largest wave of attacks on Iran, whose ancient name is Persia in the Bible, has not come yet
A biblical verse specifically mentioned the destruction of Damascus, Syria, as a sign of the end of the world. The Syrian capital has been ravaged by civil war since 2012
Many scholars and theologians have believed this verse is directly related to the End Times prophecy.
The ‘day of the Lord’ is a recurring theme in both the Old and New Testaments, often associated with the Second Coming of Christ, final judgment, or apocalyptic events.
The mention of sudden destruction amid claims of ‘peace and safety’ suggests a false sense of security before catastrophic events, which aligns with descriptions of the end times in other scriptures.
Following the bombing of Iran’s Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites, President Trump said ‘NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!’ in a Truth Social post last year.
The late-night bombing raid drew both praise and condemnation from around the world, with critics fearing the move to join Israel’s war against Iran would trigger a full-scale global conflict.
Iran’s allies, Russia and China, have both warned the US of taking direct action in Iran, warning that the move could drag all three nuclear powers into World War III.
Meanwhile, the deadly terror attack in Syria was the latest tragedy to befall the war-torn nation.Â
At least 22 worshippers were killed, and 63 were wounded in the suicide bomb attack at the Mar Elias Church in the Dweila neighborhood of Damascus. Â
Horrifying footage showed blood splattered over the shattered pews and masonry walls following the blast.Â
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but Syria’s interior ministry said a member of the Islamic State group, ISIS, was behind it.Â
Damascus has faced severe damage from the Syrian civil war, with some areas experiencing destruction due to fighting, airstrikes and neglect.
The civil war began in March 2011, triggered by pro-democracy protests during the Arab Spring.
These protests, initially nonviolent, demanded reforms and an end to the rule of President Bashar al-Assad, whose family had governed Syria since 1971.
The regime’s violent suppression of protesters, including mass arrests, torture and military sieges, escalated into a full-fledged civil war by 2012 as opposition militias formed to fight back.
Mass graves have reportedly been unearthed in Syria, with human remains found in the streets of Damascus as the horrific crimes of Assad’s regime have been laid bare in recent months.
The Tadamon district within the Syrian capital has been spotted littered with bones after what residents and human rights groups described as years of killings there under the rule of Assad.
The Bible warned of a conflict in the Middle East in which Persia, or present-day Iran, above, would attack Israel in the ‘latter days’ of the world
As fighting between Israel and Iran has resumed this month, devastating missile attacks have ravaged both countries, with allies on both sides of the conflict calling for an immediate ceasefire.
‘A cry for peace in the world is seen by many as a prophetic sign of the last days,’ the Living Waters podcast explained.
The biblical scholars added that many around the world may be lulled into a false sense of security by new calls for peace, despite the increase in global instability, wars, and moral decay they see around them.
Jerusalem was named alongside Damascus as a city that would face great danger if the end-time prophecies were coming true.
‘If a nuclear war broke out and a bomb was dropped on Damascus, that would certainly cause it to cease from being a city, and that would be a major sign that we’re in the last days,’ the Christian podcast warned.
