Four cars crash into Jacksonville woman's home

Jacqueline Curry urges action after her home endured four vehicle crashes, prompting FDOT’s plan for a traffic signal by 2027.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville woman says her home has been hit by cars four times…and she’s had enough.

For more than a decade, Jacqueline Curry has lived near the intersection of Dunn avenue and Braddock road.

However in recent years, she said that the intersection has become a direct threat to her safety and her home.

“The first time. i wanna say would have been maybe 2019 or so and a car came through the intersection straight into my garage through this wall of the garage.

Since then there have been three more crashes, all drivers losing control at the busy intersection and slamming into her home.

“So he touched down from here, this was the 3rd car to come into the house. He touched down here because he was airborne and went all the way through my house,” said Curry.

The last car smashed into her garage the morning of Saturday, September 20th. No one inside her home was hurt but the driver inside the car sustained injuries.

Curry has tried everything she can. She brought boulders to place in her front yard, pleaded with the city….

On Tuesday she brought her concerns front and center before City Council, “this is now the 4th time  car has came across Braddock road and Dunn avenue end hit my house.”

Curry even lost her homeowners insurance, after the third crash.

“I had a contractor that came out today and he said that the house is starting to collapse,” she said.

After speaking with Curry, First Coast News reached out to the Florida department of transportation.

FDOT told us they take reported crashes into consideration and plan improvements when needed. They also told us they plan on installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Dunn Ave and Braddock Road.

“In this case I would love to see a roundabout there because then that would slow down traffic in all of the directions,” said Curry, “a red light would be nice, but again if they run the light it’s going to happen again.”

While a signal light is planned, Curry hopes that additional changes will be made soon before another crash happens.

“I would really love to see happen and not for us to have to wait 18, 20 years for it to happen because we’ve been asking for this,” she said.

According to FDOT, the traffic signal they plan on installing at this intersection is part of their resurfacing project that’s expected to be completed in late 2027.
