Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has praised Yaniv Chayon, a passenger who intervened during an alleged in-flight cockpit attack and helped prevent what he called “another 9/11.” Chayon was left with bloody slash wounds after grappling with the suspected hijacker and forcing him to the floor during the flight. Netanyahu later commended the passenger’s “extraordinary courage,” saying his actions saved dozens of lives.

Speaking to a reporter at the Texas Tribune Festival, Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., argued that the Democratic Party’s “big tent” has increasingly accommodated anti-Israel voices. He cited the large Austin audience for commentator Hasan Piker as evidence of that shift.

In Canada, a police officer was seriously wounded while confronting an alleged attack during Yom Kippur. The officer reportedly faced hate-filled threats and gunfire before returning fire despite suffering multiple gunshot wounds, bringing the threat to an end and potentially preventing a mass-casualty attack. Jewish organizations, shaken by the incident, are urging lawmakers to quickly approve funding that would allow communities to hire armed security guards.

The Irish national soccer team has also come under international criticism after players declined to shake hands with their Israeli opponents and bowed their heads during Israel’s national anthem. Wearing black armbands as a form of protest, the Irish squad’s pre-match actions drew sharp condemnation. Israeli players accused the team of displaying hostility and ignorance rather than sportsmanship.

Brendan O’Neill, author of “After the Pogrom: 7 October, Israel and the Crisis of Civilisation,” argues that Ireland’s secular political and cultural establishment has replaced its historic Catholic identity with a new ideological creed. O’Neill says Irish elites use condemnation of Israel to claim moral authority, turning anti-Zionism into a rigid form of national identity that, in his view, has helped fuel antisemitism.

“The passengers, including 30 children, are already saying their prayers. They know they’re gone from this world. And this young man just acts with incredible, incredible heroism and saves the day,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on “Hannity,” while describing how Yaniv Chayon subdued an allegedly berserk pilot.
