FSU officials canceled all classes, university events and business operations through Friday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — At least six people have been hospitalized after a reported “active shooter” situation on the Florida State University campus Thursday, according to a spokesperson with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare.

Florida State University issued an alert to students Thursday, saying an active shooter was reported in the area of the university’s student union.

The spokesperson confirmed that one person was in critical condition and five others were in serious condition.

The Associated Press reported that one suspect is in custody.

FSU officials canceled all classes, university events and business operations through Friday, and athletic events in Tallahassee have been canceled throughout the weekend.

The White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement, “The President has been briefed on the shooting at Florida State University and the White House is actively monitoring the situation.”

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it is actively engaged in the incident and will provide additional information as soon as possible.

An FSU Alert, the university’s emergency notification and warning system, told students to seek shelter and await further instructions.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued the following statement on X:

Leon County Commissioner Brian Welch said on social media that the county is activating the Emergency Operations Center in support of law enforcement and healthcare partners.

FBI Jacksonville and the Tallahassee Resident Agency are on scene at FSU, assisting local law enforcement.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier’s office is also responding to the “active shooter” situation on the campus, and said he will provide updates as they become available.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
