() The federal government has halted $18 billion earmarked for infrastructure projects in New York City.

Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought posted on X that the funds for the Hudson Tunnel project and the Second Ave Subway were put on hold over concerns about “unconstitutional” policies.

Specifically, Vought posted that there were concerns that funds were going toward diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

It is not clear whether the decision to halt funds now is related to the government shutdown.

The Hudson Tunnel project would build a new tunnel for passenger trains under the Hudson River while the existing tunnel is rehabilitated. Ultimately, the project would result in four tracks running under the river.

The Second Ave Subway project would extend the Q line into Harlem and East Harlem.

Vought said the Department of Transportation would provide more details soon.
