The actor also hinted at the return of Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle to the heist film franchise.
WASHINGTON — A new ‘Ocean’s’ sequel could start filming next year, according to George Clooney.
In a new Interview with E! News, the “Jay Kelly” actor shared that Warner Bros. approved the budget for the new sequel to the heist franchise.
“We just got the budget approved at Warner Bros. and we’re trying to set up,” Clooney told E! News. “It’s just scheduling, so it’s just setting a start date for us … probably start in about nine or 10 months, shooting.”
The sequel marks Clooney’s return to the franchise after nearly a decade. The 64-year-old actor portrayed Danny Ocean, a smooth mastermind con artist, in the films.
The Oscar winner also hinted that “Ocean’s Eleven” stars Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle are all on board for “Ocean’s 14.”
“Yeah, Brad, Matt and Don and Julia. I had dinner last night with Julia. They’re all still really dear friends. And so, the chance to work together would be fun,” Clooney told E! News.
The announcement comes months after reports surfaced in January that “Fall Guy” director David Leitch was in talks to helm the sequel.
On Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Bradley Cooper is in talks to star opposite Margot Robbie in an “Ocean’s Eleven” prequel. According to the outlet, Lee Isaac Chung will direct the movie.
The project was first announced in 2022.
Steven Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s Eleven” launched the modern franchise in 2001 as a remake of the 1960 Rat Pack classic starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. Two sequels followed—”Ocean’s Twelve” in 2004 and “Ocean’s Thirteen” in 2007
In 2018, a spin-off film called “Ocean’s 8” was released, featuring an all-female cast. Sandra Bullock, who played Danny’s sister Debbie, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Mindy Kaling and Anne Hathaway all starred in the film.
