In a disturbing turn of events, a high school teacher in Georgia has been arrested following allegations of sexual misconduct involving one of her students. The accusations include engaging in inappropriate acts within a school closet.
The teacher, identified as 25-year-old Maris Nichols, was apprehended on Thursday and is currently held at the Douglas County Jail. She faces two felony charges of sexual assault by individuals with supervisory or disciplinary authority, as documented in jail records.
Employed at Alexander High School, Nichols is accused of engaging in sexual activities with a student on two separate occasions. The first incident allegedly occurred on April 23 inside a school closet, while the second is said to have taken place on May 2 in a Hummer parked in a residential driveway.
The Douglas County School System has confirmed that it is investigating the allegations tied to someone connected to Alexander High School. In a letter addressed to parents on Thursday, the district expressed its deep concern and distress over the situation, reaffirming its commitment to a thorough investigation.
The Douglas County School System told 11Alive that it was investigating allegations involving an individual associated with Alexander High. In a Thursday letter to parents, the district said it was “deeply troubled” by the allegations.

“Upon learning of the alleged misconduct, the district immediately launched an investigation,” the statement read. “The Douglas County School System will continue to cooperate fully with state and local law enforcement. The district cannot provide additional information regarding the allegations. Any further inquiries should be directed to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the school district to ask if Nichols is still employed, as well as the sheriff’s office.
Her arrest follows an announcement earlier in the week from the district stating an unidentified female teacher had been put on leave during an investigation.
