Glen Powell made a telling remark about ‘timing’ amid swirling romance rumors between himself and Sydney Sweeney.

Over the weekend, the siblings had a pleasant get-together in Dallas to celebrate his sister’s wedding. This came shortly after it was reported that Sydney had ended her engagement to Jonathan Davino.

But, during an appearance on Today’s Jenna & Friends, Powell didn’t say anything about the new speculation and noted his sister was ‘great friends’ with Sydney. 

‘The wedding caused a little bit of a stir. Did that surprise you?’ Jenna Bush Hager asked.

‘You know, timing is everything in this world, isn’t it?’ a laughing Glen replied, seemingly referencing Sydney’s newly-single status, the romance rumors they were once entangled in, and the wedding. 

‘She and Syd are obviously great friends and it was a hell of a wedding,’ he said after Hager joked his presence diverted attention away from the newlyweds.

The two – who shut down dating rumors amid promotion of their comedy Anybody But You – had a friendly reunion in Dallas over the weekend for the wedding of Glen’s sister Leslie Powell

‘It was just such a fun, rowdy wedding,’ he said. ‘The Powells know how to crank it up.’

‘The Powells know how to do it right and so all the people that love her were there,’ he added.

Powell’s roles in the wedding included delivering a speech, serving as a groomsmen, and being the self-proclaimed ‘master of ceremonies.’  

A source recently told Us Weekly that there was ‘nothing going on romantically between Glen and Sydney.’

The source said that Sydney met up with Glen because his sister Leslie invited her to her wedding in Texas over the weekend.

The day after the ceremony on Saturday, the Anyone But You co-stars grabbed a bite together at a local Dallas restaurant, as seen in photos shared by gossip site DeuxMoi on Instagram.

‘Sydney is close with the entire family,’ the source said before adding that Sweeney and Powell’s sister have ‘been close friends for a long time.’

The star responded to the wedding invitation ‘months ago’ with plans to attend with a plus-one.

Also in 2023, Powell split from his girlfriend Gigi Paris and expressed, ‘Well, look, the only reason it made things harder for me to lean into that stuff was that I was going through a very real breakup amidst a promotional tour.

‘I was with someone that I really loved and cared about and was trying to kind of make sense of a lot of stuff.’

In late 2023 on the Today show, Powell denied that there was anything romantic between the two but said, ‘No, but we do love each other. And, honestly, this is one of the most spectacular humans I’ve ever met. She’s really great.’

Sweeney and Davino started dating in 2018 and got engaged in 2022, but for the most part kept their relationship assiduously private.

The former couple had originally planned to tie the knot this May, before Sweeney reportedly got cold feet.

It was reported last week that the actress and film producer scrapped their wedding plans due to ‘major issues.’

On Tuesday, TMZ reported Sweeney and Davino had been split up since January.  

A source also told People on Monday that Sweeney and Davino’s relationship had been ‘rocky for a long time.’

At this time, the insider noted that Sweeney has been focusing on her career and is ‘exactly where she wants to be.’

‘Most people would feel overwhelmed by her working schedule this year, but not Syd. She’s all about working right now and very excited about all her projects,’ the source added. 

The source explained that the performer did, however, feel ‘overwhelmed’ by her ‘relationship and her wedding.’

Ultimately, she ‘didn’t feel right about’ walking down the aisle and wants to focus on her ‘magical career that she could only dream of a few years ago.’

‘She’s not ready to settle down,’ the source explained. ‘They only lasted for this long because it was hard for her to break it off. They didn’t split because there is no love. They split because she just wants to focus on her career right now.’
