Editor’s note: It was originally reported that Goodwill was ending several promotions at stores nationwide, however, a spokesperson for the organization said Saturday that the promotions will only be discontinued at stores in Milwaukee and Chicago.

CHICAGO (WGNTV) The new year means new changes for Goodwill as the organization has ended several of its promotions at stores in Milwaukee and Chicago.

According to a spokesperson for the organization, starting Jan. 1, Goodwill stores discontinued tag sales, senior discounts, military discount days and customer appreciation days at stores in greater Milwaukee and Chicago.

Promotions for seniors and military members offered discounts up to 20% and sometimes 30% while the tag sales offered promotional pricing on items with a certain tag color.

It is unclear why Goodwill discontinued the promotions, but a spokesperson said there will still be some “members-only” promotions offered throughout the year for members of Goodwill’s Perks Plus loyalty program which also offers shoppers the chance to collect and redeem points and coupons.

Each local Goodwill organization establishes its own marketing and promotion programs, according to a spokesperson.

“To show our commitment to offering benefits to our Perks Plus members, we are running other promotions throughout the month of January,” the spokesperson said in a statement on Friday.

The Perks Plus loyalty program is free to join.
